Brew Strength / Extraction Issue
Coffee tastes weak or watery even when using the same amount of coffee grounds.
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Water passing too quickly through grounds due to coarse grind, incorrect brew strength setting, showerhead not distributing water evenly, bypass valve stuck open (on some models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the unit to cool before removing internal parts.
Adjust brewing variables:
- Use a medium grind coffee suitable for drip machines.
- Increase the amount of coffee grounds per cup.
- On models with a brew strength button, select BOLD or STRONG.
Clean showerhead and basket:
- Remove and clean the showerhead / brew head to ensure even water distribution.
- Ensure the filter basket is not warped and allows proper flow.
Bypass valve (if equipped):
- Some advanced models have a bypass valve that diverts water; if stuck open, extraction is reduced.
- Inspect and clean the valve; replace if it does not move freely.
