Possible Causes
Normal safety lockout while warming plate is hot, stuck or misreading temperature sensor on warming plate, control board not resetting temperature status
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: The HOT indication is a safety feature. Do not attempt to bypass it by modifying wiring or sensors.
Normal operation:
- Many Black+Decker models prevent immediate re-brewing to avoid overheating. Wait 5–10 minutes for the warming plate to cool slightly, then try again.
If HOT persists abnormally:
- Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely (30–45 minutes).
- Plug back in and check if HOT still appears before any brewing. If so, the temperature sensor may be stuck or faulty.
- Access the base and inspect the NTC sensor on the warming plate for secure mounting and good contact.
- Test the sensor resistance at room temperature; compare to expected values from service documentation if available.
When to replace:
- If the sensor reads out of range or is physically damaged, replace the warming plate temperature sensor.
- If the sensor is good but HOT remains, replace the control PCB which interprets the sensor signal.
