Bodum
Filter Basket Drain Restriction / Incorrect Grind
Bodum coffee maker overflows the filter basket; coffee grounds and water spill over into the carafe and onto the counter.

Possible Causes
Clogged filter basket outlet, Too fine espresso grind used, Paper filter folded or double-layered, Drip-stop valve stuck closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before cleaning. Hot coffee can scald.
Steps to try:
- Use correct grind: For Bodum drip machines, use a medium grind, not espresso-fine. Overly fine grounds slow drainage and cause overflow.
- Check filter setup: Ensure only one paper filter is used and that it is properly seated in the basket. Avoid folding the bottom excessively.
- Clean basket outlet: Remove the filter basket and rinse thoroughly. Use a toothpick or small brush to clear the drain hole and any built-in drip-stop valve.
- Inspect drip-stop: If your model has a spring-loaded drip-stop at the bottom of the basket, press it repeatedly under running water to free any stuck coffee oils.
After cleaning, run a brew cycle with water only to confirm proper drainage before brewing coffee again.
