Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before any disassembly. Hot plates and internal tubing can cause burns.
Steps to try:
- Basic reset: Unplug the unit for 10 minutes to allow the control board to reset. Plug back in and attempt a brew with fresh water.
- Descale the system: Mineral buildup can cause inaccurate temperature readings. Fill the reservoir with a 1:1 mix of white vinegar and water. Run a half brew cycle, then pause for 20 minutes. Resume until the tank is empty. Run 2–3 full tanks of clean water afterward to rinse.
- Check for blocked vents: Ensure the bottom and rear ventilation slots are not blocked by towels, cabinets, or other appliances. Overheating can trigger sensor errors.
- Inspect thermistor (advanced): With the unit unplugged, remove the bottom cover. Locate the thermistor clipped to the aluminum heating tube or hot plate. Verify the small two-wire connector is firmly seated on the control board and that the sensor is tightly attached to the heater surface.
- Look for damage: Check for burnt spots on the heater, melted insulation, or broken wires. If found, do not operate the machine until parts are replaced.
When to stop: If E2 returns after descaling and checking connections, the thermistor or control board likely needs replacement. This is best handled by a technician or by replacing the unit if parts are not readily available.
