Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing covers or hoses. Hot water and live wiring are present inside.
Steps to try:
- Check water tank seating: Remove and reinstall the water tank, ensuring the bottom valve fully opens when seated. Inspect the valve for debris and rinse under running water.
- Prime the pump: Fill the tank completely with water. With the unit plugged in, start a brew cycle and gently tap the side of the machine near the base to help dislodge air bubbles. If the pump starts drawing water, let it run for a full cycle.
- Clean inlet filter: Some Bodum models have a small mesh screen at the tank outlet or inside the base where the tank connects. Remove and rinse this screen to clear coffee grounds or scale.
- Inspect hoses (advanced): With the unit unplugged and cooled, remove the bottom cover. Check the silicone hoses from the tank to the pump and from the pump to the boiler for kinks, pinches, or blockages. Straighten or replace as needed.
If E5 remains: The vibration pump may have failed electrically or mechanically. Replacement of the pump assembly is required and is a moderate to advanced repair.
