Possible Causes
Hard water use without filtration, Infrequent descaling, Blocked thermoblock passages, Scaled steam wand and valves
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Follow the descaling instructions exactly. Hot acidic solution can cause burns and damage surfaces.
Descale procedure (general Breville guidance):
- Empty the drip tray and remove any coffee grounds or pucks.
- Fill the water tank with a mixture of Breville descaling solution and water as specified in your manual.
- Enter DESCALE mode using the front panel buttons (varies by model).
- Run the descale cycle through both the brew head and steam wand as instructed, collecting the solution in a large container.
- After descaling, thoroughly rinse the tank and run at least 2 full tanks of fresh water through the system to flush out any remaining solution.
Resolution: The DESCALE message should clear automatically after the cycle. If performance is still poor, a second descale or manual cleaning of the shower screen, group head, and steam wand may be required.
