Possible Causes

Carafe not fully inserted, Broken carafe sensor lever, Faulty magnetic or mechanical lid sensor, Damaged wiring to sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine before manipulating any mechanical levers or covers.

Steps:

  • Verify carafe position: Slide the Capresso glass or thermal carafe fully onto the warming plate until it is centered and touching the back stop.
  • Check lid closure: Ensure the top lid is fully closed and latched. Some models use a magnet or tab on the lid to signal the control board.
  • Inspect sensor area: Look under the brew basket and around the carafe area for a small plastic lever or tab that may be bent or broken. Clean away any coffee residue that might block movement.
  • Test with gentle pressure: With the unit plugged in and idle, gently press the suspected sensor area (e.g., carafe lever) and see if the error clears. Do not insert tools into the machine while powered.
  • Persistent E6: If the error does not clear, the lid/carafe sensor or its wiring may be defective and require replacement.
