Possible Causes

Coffee beans jammed in grinder chute, Foreign object in grinder burrs, Worn or seized grinder motor, Faulty grinder motor driver circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before accessing the bean hopper or grinder. Never put fingers near burrs while plugged in.

Steps:

  • Empty the bean hopper: Remove all beans from the hopper. Use a vacuum or brush to remove loose grounds.
  • Check for jams: Remove the upper burr (if user-removable on your Capresso model) and inspect for stones, hard objects, or compacted coffee. Clean thoroughly with a small brush.
  • Rotate burr by hand: With the upper burr removed, gently rotate the lower burr by hand. It should move with some resistance but not be locked. If it is seized, there may be a serious obstruction or motor issue.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the burrs and hopper, add a small amount of beans, and plug the unit back in. Try a grind cycle.
  • If E7 persists: The grinder motor or its driver circuit may be faulty. Replacement of the grinder motor assembly or main control board is required and is an advanced repair.
