Possible Causes
Brew lid not fully closed, Lid latch microswitch misaligned or stuck, Broken lid hinge or latch tab, Wiring to lid switch damaged
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before manipulating the lid or brew head.
Check lid closure:
- Open and firmly close the brew lid several times. Listen for a distinct click from the internal microswitch.
- Ensure no coffee pod, grounds basket, or paper filter is preventing the lid from closing fully.
- Inspect the lid latch and hinge for cracks or deformation. If the lid does not align properly, the switch may not engage.
Clean the latch area:
- Wipe away coffee residue around the latch and switch area with a damp cloth. Sticky residue can prevent full closure.
If E4 persists:
- The lid position microswitch or its wiring may be faulty. Replacing the switch or the entire brew lid assembly is usually required and may involve opening the housing.
