Possible Causes
Carafe not seated properly on warming plate, Drip-stop lever stuck in closed position, Broken carafe lid tab that actuates drip-stop, Faulty carafe presence switch (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug and allow the unit to cool before touching the hot plate or brew basket.
- Reseat the carafe: Remove the carafe and place it back firmly on the warming plate, ensuring it is centered and fully back against the machine.
- Check carafe lid: Make sure the lid is fully closed and that the small plastic tab that pushes up the drip-stop in the brew basket is intact and not broken.
- Clean the drip-stop mechanism: Remove the filter basket and locate the spring-loaded drip-stop valve. Rinse it under warm water and move it up and down to ensure it is not stuck with coffee residue.
- Inspect for damage: If the drip-stop spring is broken or the valve is loose, the machine may think the carafe is missing. Replace the filter basket assembly if damaged.
- Persistent ERR 4: If the error remains even with a known-good carafe and clean basket, the internal carafe switch or sensor may be faulty and require professional replacement.
