Possible Causes
Clogged single-serve needle or outlet, Airlock in single-serve pump, Scale buildup in single-serve heater, Failed single-serve pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and let it cool before accessing the single-serve head.
- Clean the needles: On Cuisinart combo and single-serve models, use the included cleaning tool or a straightened paper clip to gently clear the upper and lower needles where the K-cup is pierced. Rinse thoroughly.
- Run a water-only cycle: Fill the reservoir and run several brew cycles without a pod to flush debris. If water flow is weak or intermittent, proceed to descaling.
- Descale single-serve side: Fill the reservoir with a 1:1 vinegar-water solution and run multiple 6–8 oz cycles until the reservoir is empty. Let the unit sit for 20 minutes, then flush with fresh water.
- Check pump sound: Listen for the pump during a brew attempt. A loud humming with no water movement suggests a stuck or failed pump.
- Persistent ERR 5: If cleaning and descaling do not restore flow, the single-serve pump or internal tubing may need replacement by a technician.
