Machine will not heat, display shows E01 shortly after power-on and brew is disabled.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Dualit coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels. Never work on a live appliance.
Step-by-step checks:
- Power-cycle the machine: Unplug for 5 minutes, then reconnect and try again. Sometimes a transient error clears.
- Access the boiler area: Remove the top or rear cover (varies by model such as Dualit Espressivo or 4-in-1). Keep track of screws and do not force plastic clips.
- Inspect the NTC sensor: Locate the small probe or button-style sensor clipped or screwed to the boiler/thermoblock. Check for signs of damage, cracking, or burnt insulation.
- Check connections: Ensure the NTC plug is firmly seated on the main PCB and at the sensor end. Look for corrosion or loose pins; clean gently with electrical contact cleaner if needed.
- Test resistance: With a multimeter set to ohms, measure the NTC resistance at room temperature. Compare to service specs (commonly 50–100 kΩ at 25°C; consult Dualit documentation). If reading is open circuit or shorted, the sensor is faulty.
- Inspect wiring harness: Follow the cable from sensor to PCB, checking for pinched, cut, or heat-damaged insulation. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- If sensor and wiring test OK: The temperature input circuit on the main control PCB may be defective. Replacement of the PCB is usually required and is best done by a qualified technician.
When to stop: If you smell burning, see melted plastic, or are unsure about electrical testing, stop and contact a professional technician.
