Possible Causes
Open heating element, Failed brew heater thermal cutoff, Faulty heater relay on control board, Loose wiring to heater terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before opening the housing.
- 1. Access the heater assembly:
- Remove the bottom plate or rear cover to expose the aluminum heating block or stainless steel heating tube.
- Identify the two main heater terminals and any inline thermal cutoff (thermal fuse) attached to the heater.
- 2. Test the heating element:
- Disconnect the heater wires from the control board.
- Use a multimeter set to ohms and measure across the heater terminals.
- A typical Frigidaire drip coffee maker heater will read low resistance (10–40 Ω). If it reads open (OL), the heater is bad and must be replaced.
- 3. Check the thermal cutoff:
- Locate the small cylindrical thermal fuse clipped to the heater body.
- Test for continuity across the fuse. If open, replace with the same temperature and current rating.
- Inspect for signs of overheating or scale buildup on the heater that may have caused the fuse to blow.
- 4. Inspect heater relay and wiring:
- On the main control PCB, locate the heater relay (usually labeled and near the heater connector).
- Check for burnt contacts or cracked solder joints; resolder or replace the board if damage is visible.
- Ensure all spade connectors to the heater are tight and not corroded.
- 5. Reassemble and test:
- Reinstall covers, plug in, and run a water-only brew cycle to confirm the heater energizes and E02 clears.
