Possible Causes
Empty or improperly seated water reservoir, Faulty water level float or magnet, Failed reed switch or water level sensor on base, Debris preventing float movement
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before inspecting internal sensors.
- 1. Check reservoir placement:
- Remove and reseat the water reservoir firmly onto the base.
- Ensure the reservoir lid is closed if the model uses a lid interlock.
- Fill the reservoir to at least the minimum fill line.
- 2. Inspect the float:
- Look inside the reservoir for a plastic float assembly.
- Move the float up and down; it should move freely. If stuck, clean with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
- Check for scale or coffee residue that may be binding the float.
- 3. Test the reed switch / level sensor:
- With the bottom cover removed, locate the reed switch or electronic level sensor under the reservoir area.
- Use a magnet to simulate the float and observe if the E05 icon changes or clears when the unit is powered (do this test with covers temporarily in place for safety, or follow service manual).
- If the sensor does not respond, test continuity of the reed switch with a multimeter while moving a magnet near it. Replace the sensor if it remains open.
- 4. Check wiring to control board:
- Ensure the harness from the level sensor to the main control PCB is fully seated and not pinched.
- 5. Reassemble and test:
- Reinstall covers, fill the reservoir, and confirm that E05 no longer appears and brewing starts normally.
