Gaggia
Under-Extraction / Low Coffee Dose
Coffee is weak or watery even on the strongest setting
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Grind too coarse, Grinder burrs worn, Low coffee dose setting, Brew group not compressing puck properly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Adjustments:
- Grind setting: While the grinder is running during a brew cycle, adjust the grind one or two steps finer. Do not adjust when the grinder is stopped.
- Strength setting: Increase the coffee strength or aroma setting in the menu to raise the dose.
- Bean quality: Use fresh, medium-roast beans. Very light or very oily beans can affect extraction.
Maintenance:
- Remove and clean the brew group, ensuring the piston and filters are free of coffee oils and residue.
- If the machine is older, consider replacing the grinder burrs to restore proper grinding performance.
If coffee remains weak despite these changes, the dosing mechanism or brew group compression may need adjustment or parts replacement by a technician.
