Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine and let it cool for at least 45 minutes. Do not attempt to reset thermal devices while the boiler is hot.
User-level steps:
- Descale thoroughly: Once cool, run a full descaling cycle to remove limescale that can cause localized overheating.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the machine has adequate space around it and that vents are not blocked.
Internal checks (advanced):
- Remove the cover to access the boiler/thermoblock.
- Locate the thermal fuse or manual-reset thermostat attached to the boiler.
- Inspect wiring: Look for burned connectors or loose spade terminals and reseat them firmly.
- If the thermostat has a manual reset button, press it gently to reset (if allowed by Gaggia for your model).
If the thermal fuse is open (non-resettable type), it must be replaced. Persistent E05 after replacing the fuse/thermostat suggests a control board or sensor issue that should be diagnosed by a professional.
