Possible Causes

Disconnected thermistor harness, Broken thermistor lead, Failed thermistor, Damaged connector on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before opening the base or back panel.

  • 1. Access the heater area: Remove screws on the bottom or rear of the unit to access the heating element and wiring harness.
  • 2. Locate the thermistor: Find the small sensor clipped or strapped to the heater tube or boiler block. It will have two small wires leading to the control board.
  • 3. Check connections: Ensure the thermistor plug is fully seated on the control board and that the wires are not pinched or broken. Reseat the connector.
  • 4. Test continuity (advanced): Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the thermistor. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed sensor that must be replaced.
  • 5. Replace thermistor if defective: Order the correct GE thermistor for your model. Remove the old sensor, install the new one in the same position, and reconnect the harness.
