Possible Causes
New plastic components heating for first time, Residual oils in heater and tubing, Dust accumulation burning off warming plate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Operate the unit in a well-ventilated area during initial use.
- 1. Initial cleaning cycles: Run 2–3 full reservoirs of water (no coffee) through the machine before first use.
- 2. Optional vinegar rinse: Run a mild vinegar-water cycle followed by several water-only cycles to remove residual odors.
- 3. Wipe exterior: Clean the exterior and warming plate with a damp cloth to remove dust and residues.
- 4. If smell persists: Persistent strong chemical odor after multiple cycles may indicate overheating or material issues; discontinue use and contact GE support.
