Possible Causes

Empty bean hopper or blocked beans, Jammed grinder burrs, Defective grinder motor, Faulty grinder position or hall sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine before accessing the grinder. Keep fingers away from burrs.

Clearing jams:

  • Check beans: Open the bean hopper and ensure it is at least half full. Remove any foreign objects (stones, wood chips) that may have fallen in.
  • Adjust grind setting: Set the grind to a slightly coarser setting and try again. Very fine settings can overload the grinder.
  • Manual clearing: Remove the hopper and upper burr (on models with removable burrs). Vacuum out compacted coffee grounds. Rotate the lower burr gently with a tool to ensure it moves freely.
  • Inspect grinder motor: Access the grinder assembly from the top or side. Check the motor connectors and wiring harness. If the motor smells burnt or does not turn even when powered (for qualified persons only), it likely needs replacement.

Note: If the machine still shows E5 after clearing and the grinder does not run, the grinder sensor or control board may be faulty and should be checked by a technician.
