Possible Causes
Thermal fuse on heater open, Heating element partially failed, Excessive scale buildup on internal aluminum heating block, Faulty temperature control on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before handling.
- Reset attempt: Some Gourmia models clear an overheat error after a full cool-down. Leave the unit unplugged for 30–60 minutes, then plug back in and test.
- Descale the system: If the unit heats but then errors, mineral buildup may be causing localized overheating. Run a descaling cycle using a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water in the reservoir. Brew halfway, pause for 20 minutes, then complete the cycle. Follow with 2–3 full reservoirs of fresh water to rinse.
- Check for restricted flow: Remove and clean the removable filter basket, brew head screen, and any removable needle or nozzle. Clogs can cause the heater to overheat.
- If E3 persists: The thermal fuse or heater assembly is likely open and must be replaced. This requires opening the base and working with mains wiring—best handled by a qualified technician.
