Possible Causes
Carafe not fully seated on warming plate, Drip-stop lever stuck in closed position, Carafe presence microswitch misaligned or failed, Broken spring or linkage in drip-stop mechanism
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before inspecting the carafe area.
- Verify carafe position: Slide the glass or thermal carafe fully back onto the warming plate until it contacts the rear stop. Some Gourmia models require the carafe to press a switch under the basket.
- Inspect drip-stop lever: Open the filter basket door and locate the drip-stop plunger or lever. Press it up and down several times to ensure it moves freely. Clean any dried coffee residue with warm soapy water and a soft brush.
- Clean the carafe rim: Coffee residue on the carafe lid or rim can prevent proper engagement with the drip-stop. Wash and dry thoroughly.
- Test again: Reinstall the basket and carafe, plug in, and attempt a brew. If E4 remains, the internal carafe presence microswitch or its actuator is likely damaged and may need replacement.
Note: Replacing the microswitch requires disassembly of the upper housing; consider professional service.
