Possible Causes
Brew head lid not fully closed, Lid latch hook worn or broken, Lid-closed microswitch out of alignment, Obstruction (pod, foil, debris) preventing full closure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before inspecting the lid or pod area.
- Check lid closure: Open and firmly close the brew head lid until you hear or feel a distinct click. Do not force it; if it resists, remove the pod and inspect.
- Inspect for obstructions: Remove any K-cup style pod or capsule. Check for torn foil, plastic, or coffee grounds around the upper and lower needles and gasket. Clean with a damp cloth and a soft brush.
- Examine latch and gasket: Look at the plastic latch hook and the rubber sealing gasket around the brew head. If the latch is cracked or the gasket is deformed, the lid may not press the microswitch fully.
- Test without pod: With the unit unplugged, close the lid without a pod and listen for the microswitch click. Plug back in and see if E5 clears. If the error persists, the lid-closed microswitch or latch assembly may need replacement.
