Possible Causes

Scale buildup causing overheating, Thermistor reading out of range, Poor contact between thermistor and heater surface, Control board misreading sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug and allow the unit to cool fully before touching the base or heater area.

Descale first:

  • Run a full vinegar cleaning cycle (1:1 vinegar to water) through the affected side (carafe or single-serve) to remove scale that can cause hot spots.
  • Flush with 2–3 full reservoirs of clean water.

Reset:

  • After descaling and cooling, unplug for 10 minutes, then plug back in and test.

If E2 returns quickly, the temperature sensor may be failing or not properly attached to the heater. This requires opening the unit and is best handled by a technician.
