Possible Causes
Air trapped in heater tube, Severely scaled heater, Blocked internal tubing, Failed check valve near pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug and allow the unit to cool. Hot internal parts can cause burns.
- Prime the system: Fill the reservoir to the max line. With the unit unplugged, gently tilt it forward and backward a few times to move trapped air. Plug in and run a water-only cycle.
- Descale aggressively: Fill with a strong descaling solution (up to 2:1 vinegar to water) and attempt several short brew cycles, allowing the solution to sit inside for 15–20 minutes between attempts.
- Check for external leaks: Look under the unit during a brew attempt (use a tray) to see if water is leaking internally instead of exiting the spout.
- Inspect reservoir outlet: Ensure the bottom valve opens freely when pressed and is not stuck closed.
If the pump hums but never moves water after multiple priming and descaling attempts, the pump or internal check valve likely needs replacement.
