Mold or mildew smell from the coffee maker or carafe.

Possible Causes
Standing water in reservoir, Infrequent cleaning, Damp filter basket left closed, Dirty carafe lid and spout
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug before deep cleaning.
- Thorough cleaning: Disassemble all removable parts (reservoir, basket, carafe, lid) and wash with hot soapy water. Use a bottle brush for the carafe and lid channels.
- Sanitize: Run a brew cycle with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water. Let sit for 15 minutes, then complete the cycle and follow with 2–3 clean water cycles.
- Dry completely: Leave the lid and basket open when not in use to allow air circulation and drying.
- Replace old filters: If your Insignia model uses a charcoal water filter, replace it according to the manual.
Persistent odor after cleaning may indicate mold inside non-removable tubing, which is difficult to fully sanitize and may warrant replacement of the unit.
