Possible Causes
Worn membrane keypad, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and control board, Contaminated touch panel from moisture or coffee spills, Failed touch sensor IC on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before opening the housing.
- Clean the control area: Wipe the control panel with a slightly damp cloth, then dry thoroughly. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the panel. Moisture can cause false touches.
- Reset the unit: Leave the coffee maker unplugged for 5–10 minutes to discharge the control board. Plug back in and test the buttons.
- Inspect keypad connection: Remove the top or front cover to access the control panel. Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad/touch panel to the main board. Reseat the connector by unplugging and firmly reconnecting it.
- Check for corrosion: Look for green/white corrosion or sticky residue on the keypad contacts or ribbon. Clean gently with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab, allow to dry fully.
- Replace keypad or control panel: If specific buttons never respond, the membrane keypad or glass touch panel is likely defective. Replace the entire keypad/control panel assembly compatible with your Kenmore model.
