Possible Causes
Blocked water inlet screen, Failed flow meter sensor, Airlock in water line, Clogged internal water tubing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool before working on it.
- Check water reservoir: Remove the reservoir, rinse it, and inspect the outlet valve at the bottom. Make sure the valve opens freely and is not blocked by scale or debris.
- Clean inlet screen: Look for a small mesh screen where the reservoir seats into the machine. Gently clean it with a soft brush and warm water to remove mineral buildup.
- Run a water-only cycle: Fill the reservoir with fresh water and run a brew cycle without coffee. If the error clears, repeat 2–3 times to flush air and debris.
- Descale the machine: Run a descaling cycle using a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water (or a commercial descaler) per Kenmore instructions. This helps clear partially blocked tubing and the flow meter.
- Inspect flow meter (advanced): If accessible, locate the plastic flow meter in the water path (small round or square device with two hoses and wires). Check for kinks in hoses and ensure connectors are secure. If E03 persists, the flow meter sensor may need replacement.
