Possible Causes
Bean hopper not seated correctly, Faulty hopper presence switch, Broken hopper locking tab, Misaligned magnet and reed switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before adjusting the hopper.
- Reseat hopper: Remove the bean hopper and reinstall it, ensuring it locks fully into place. Align any arrows or marks per the manual.
- Inspect locking tabs: Check the underside of the hopper for broken plastic tabs that actuate a switch. Replace the hopper if tabs are damaged.
- Check magnet/sensor: Some Kenmore models use a magnet in the hopper and a reed switch in the body. Ensure the magnet is still attached and the reed switch is not displaced.
- Test switch (advanced): Access the hopper safety switch and test continuity when the hopper is installed. Replace the switch if it does not change state.
