Possible Causes
Drip tray not inserted correctly, Full grounds container, Faulty tray presence microswitch, Dirty optical sensor for tray
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before reaching into the drip tray area.
- Empty and clean tray: Remove the Kenwood drip tray and used coffee grounds container. Empty and wash them with warm soapy water, then dry thoroughly.
- Check float indicator: Some trays have a red float that rises when full. Ensure it moves freely and is not stuck in the up position.
- Clean sensor area: Wipe the area where the tray slides in, including any small plastic tabs or windows that may be used by an optical sensor. Remove coffee residues and moisture.
- Reinsert firmly: Slide the tray and grounds container back in until they are fully seated. The machine may not detect them if they are slightly out of position.
- If E11 persists: The tray presence switch or sensor may be defective and will need replacement by a technician.
