Immediate action: Turn off and unplug the coffee maker. Allow it to cool before handling hot components.

Clear the brew basket:

• Remove the brew basket and discard coffee grounds.
• Rinse the basket thoroughly, paying special attention to the outlet hole and drip stop mechanism.
• Operate the drip stop by hand to ensure it moves freely.

Check carafe alignment:

• Ensure the carafe is the correct KitchenAid model and is fully seated so its lid presses the drip stop open.

If the basket or drip stop is damaged or warped, replace the brew basket assembly.
