Possible Causes
Scale buildup in boiler and tubing, Flow sensor detecting restricted flow, Time-based cleaning reminder reached, Hard water usage without regular descaling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Perform a full cleaning/descale cycle:
- Fill the water reservoir with a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and fresh water up to the MAX line.
- Place an empty carafe on the warming plate and ensure the brew basket is empty.
- Activate the CLEAN or DESCALE mode according to your KitchenAid model’s instructions (often by holding the CLEAN button).
- Allow the cycle to run completely. Do not interrupt power during the cleaning cycle.
- After completion, discard the solution and run 2–3 full reservoirs of clean water to rinse.
Resetting the CLEAN light:
- On many KitchenAid models, the CLEAN light will automatically reset after a full cleaning cycle.
- If it does not, unplug the unit for 5 minutes, plug back in, and run a normal brew cycle with water only.
If the CLEAN indicator remains on even after thorough descaling, the flow sensor or control board may be misreading flow and could require service.
