Possible Causes
Blocked flowmeter turbine due to scale or debris, failed flowmeter Hall sensor, reversed or loose flowmeter wiring, air in the brew circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the machine. Close the water supply and relieve pressure via the brew group and hot water tap.
Steps to address ALARM 9:
- Locate the flowmeter: Typically installed in the brew water line between the pump and the group solenoid(s). It is a small brass or plastic body with two or three wires.
- Check wiring: Ensure the flowmeter connector is firmly attached and that wires are not pinched or broken. Reseat the connector at the flowmeter and control board.
- Inspect for airlocks: If the machine was recently installed or serviced, air may be trapped. Run several manual flushes through the group to purge air (if the machine will allow it).
- Clean the flowmeter: Shut off water and remove the flowmeter. Open the body (if serviceable) and inspect the turbine wheel. Remove any scale or debris with a soft brush and rinse thoroughly. Do not scratch the internal surfaces.
- Test the sensor (advanced): With a multimeter, verify that the Hall sensor receives proper voltage from the board and that it outputs pulses when the turbine is spun by blowing water or air through it.
- Replace if necessary: If the turbine is damaged or the sensor does not output pulses, replace the flowmeter with the correct La Marzocco part.
