Possible Causes

Debris in three-way solenoid valve, Worn solenoid valve plunger or seal, Scale buildup on valve seat, Stuck E61 group valve (on mechanical groups)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug. Allow the group to cool.

  • Backflush with detergent: Use a blind basket and espresso machine cleaner to perform multiple backflush cycles. This can dislodge coffee particles from the three-way valve.
  • Manual group cleaning: On E61-style groups, operate the lever several times to help reseat internal valves. Backflushing is especially important on these groups.
  • Inspect solenoid (if accessible): Remove the solenoid coil and valve body. Clean the plunger and seat with descaler if scale is present. Replace the three-way solenoid valve if the plunger or seat is damaged.
  • Reassemble and test: After cleaning, reassemble and test for drips. Persistent dripping usually indicates a worn valve that must be replaced.
