Possible Causes

Water tank not seated correctly, Water level float stuck or misaligned, Water level sensor failure, Tank microswitch or reed switch fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch the coffee maker off and unplug it before inspecting parts. Allow the machine to cool if it was recently used.

  • Check water tank seating: Remove the water tank completely and reinsert it firmly until it is fully engaged in its slot. Many Magimix models use a small microswitch or magnetic reed sensor to detect the tank.
  • Refill the tank: Ensure the tank is filled above the minimum level mark. Low water can trigger ERR1 on some models.
  • Inspect the float: Look inside the tank for a plastic float. Make sure it moves freely up and down. Rinse the tank with warm water and a little washing-up liquid to remove scale or coffee oils that may cause sticking.
  • Clean the tank contacts: If your model has electrical contacts on the tank base, wipe them and the matching contacts on the machine with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive pads.
  • Test the sensor: With the machine unplugged, gently press the tank switch (if visible) with a non-metallic tool and listen/feel for a click. If there is no click or the error persists, the water level sensor or switch may need replacement.

If ERR1 continues after these checks, the internal water level sensor or control board may be faulty. In that case, professional diagnosis is recommended.
