Possible Causes

Open-circuit NTC temperature sensor on brew unit heater, shorted NTC sensor, damaged wiring harness to temperature sensor, faulty control board temperature input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing covers. The heater block can remain hot for several minutes after use.

User-level checks:

  • Power-cycle the machine (unplug for 10 minutes, then reconnect) to clear transient faults.
  • Ensure the machine is in a room above 5°C (41°F); extreme cold can confuse temperature readings.

Technical inspection:

  • Remove the top and side panels to access the brew unit heater block.
  • Locate the NTC sensor clipped or screwed into the heater block or thermoblock. It usually has two small wires leading to the control board.
  • Check the sensor wiring for damage, chafing, or disconnection. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and control board ends.
  • With a multimeter, measure the resistance of the NTC at room temperature; compare to Miele service specs (typically in the tens of kΩ). Infinite or near-zero resistance indicates a failed sensor.

Resolution:

  • If the NTC is out of spec, replace the temperature sensor assembly specific to your Miele model.
  • If the sensor and wiring are good but F2 persists, the control board's temperature input circuit may be defective and the board will need replacement by a technician.
