Display shows F5; machine does not pump water or stops mid-cycle

Safety first: Unplug the machine before any disassembly.

Basic checks:

• Ensure the water tank is full and correctly seated.
• Remove and clean the water tank filter screen at the outlet (if fitted).
• Run a hot water or rinse cycle several times to try to clear air from the pump.

Technical inspection:

• Remove covers to access the vibration pump (often a ULKA or similar pump in Miele machines).
• Check the silicone hoses to and from the pump for kinks, blockages, or leaks.
• During a test cycle (with covers loosely in place and extreme caution), listen for pump operation. A loud hum with no water movement suggests a seized pump or blocked inlet.
• With power disconnected, measure the pump coil resistance and compare to specifications. An open circuit indicates a failed pump.

Resolution:

• Replace the pump if it is electrically open, seized, or leaking.
• If the pump tests good but never receives voltage, the control board's pump driver may be faulty and should be serviced by a professional.
