Possible Causes
Failed vibration pump, blocked pump inlet, air lock in pump, defective pump triac/relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before any disassembly.
Basic checks:
- Ensure the water tank is full and correctly seated.
- Remove and clean the water tank filter screen at the outlet (if fitted).
- Run a hot water or rinse cycle several times to try to clear air from the pump.
Technical inspection:
- Remove covers to access the vibration pump (often a ULKA or similar pump in Miele machines).
- Check the silicone hoses to and from the pump for kinks, blockages, or leaks.
- During a test cycle (with covers loosely in place and extreme caution), listen for pump operation. A loud hum with no water movement suggests a seized pump or blocked inlet.
- With power disconnected, measure the pump coil resistance and compare to specifications. An open circuit indicates a failed pump.
Resolution:
- Replace the pump if it is electrically open, seized, or leaking.
- If the pump tests good but never receives voltage, the control board's pump driver may be faulty and should be serviced by a professional.
