Possible Causes
Blown thermal fuse in base, Failed on/off rocker switch, Open heating element, Damaged power cord or plug
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Moccamaster from the wall outlet before any inspection. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.
- Check the outlet and cord: Test the outlet with another appliance. Inspect the Moccamaster power cord for cuts, burns, or kinks. If damaged, replace the power cord assembly.
- Inspect the on/off switch: Remove the bottom/base cover (usually Phillips screws). Locate the rocker switch. Check for loose spade connectors or burned contacts. Reseat connectors firmly. If the switch feels loose, melted, or does not click, replace the on/off rocker switch.
- Test the thermal fuse: Find the thermal fuse mounted near the heating element or on the aluminum heating block. Using a multimeter on continuity, test across the fuse. If open (no continuity), replace the thermal fuse with the same temperature and amperage rating.
- Check the heating element: With the base open and unit unplugged, disconnect the heating element leads and test for continuity. An open circuit indicates a failed heating element that must be replaced as a complete heating block/element assembly.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the base cover, ensuring no wires are pinched. Plug in and test the power function.
