Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before inspecting any parts.
- Check water tank seating: Remove the removable water tank and reinsert it firmly. On many Morphy Richards digital filter coffee makers, a small microswitch or magnetic reed sensor detects the tank. Make sure the tank is fully pushed in until it clicks.
- Fill to correct level: Ensure the tank is filled above the minimum mark. Some models will show E1 if the float does not rise enough to be detected.
- Free the float: Look inside the tank for a plastic float. If it is stuck with scale or debris, clean the tank with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and move the float up and down until it moves freely.
- Inspect sensor area: On models with a magnetic float, check the side or base of the tank where the magnet aligns with a reed switch in the body. Wipe away any scale or coffee residue that may interfere with detection.
- Check wiring (advanced): With the unit unplugged, remove the bottom cover (usually several screws). Locate the water level sensor harness going to the main control PCB. Ensure the connector is fully seated and there are no broken wires. Reassemble carefully.
If E1 persists after these checks, the water level sensor or control PCB may be faulty and should be replaced or serviced by a qualified technician.
