Possible Causes

NTC thermistor open circuit, NTC thermistor shorted, Damaged wiring between thermistor and control PCB, Control PCB sensor input failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before opening any panels.

  • Power reset: Disconnect from mains for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes E2 is a transient sensor reading error.
  • Check for scale on heater: Heavy limescale on the heating block can cause abnormal temperature readings. Run a full descaling cycle using a manufacturer-approved descaler in the water tank, then flush with 2–3 tanks of clean water.
  • Inspect thermistor connection (advanced): Remove the base cover. Locate the NTC thermistor clipped or bonded to the aluminium heating block or hot plate. Ensure its plug is firmly connected to the control PCB and that the sensor is in firm contact with the metal surface.
  • Look for damage: Check the thermistor wires for burns, cuts, or melted insulation. If damaged, the thermistor assembly should be replaced.

If the E2 code remains after descaling and checking connections, the NTC thermistor or the main control PCB is likely defective and should be replaced by a technician.
