Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Do not attempt to bypass any safety devices. Allow the unit to cool completely.
- Check for blockages: A blocked water path can cause overheating. Remove and rinse the water tank and filter basket. Ensure the drip stop valve in the filter holder moves freely and is not jammed with coffee grounds.
- Descale the system: Fill the tank with descaling solution and run a descaling cycle. A blocked aluminium heating tube in Morphy Richards filter machines can cause overheating and trigger E3.
- Inspect base (advanced): Remove the bottom cover. Locate the thermal fuse and overheat thermostat clipped to the heating element or hot plate. Check for obvious burn marks or broken components.
- Test continuity (advanced): Using a multimeter (with the unit unplugged), test the thermal fuse and thermostat for continuity. If open, they must be replaced with identical rated parts—never bypass them.
If the thermal fuse has blown or the thermostat is open, replacement is required. If they fail again after replacement, the heating element or control PCB may be overdriving the heater and should be checked by a professional.
