Possible Causes
Flow meter blocked by scale, Flow meter electrical failure, Airlock in pump, Pump failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before removing any covers or hoses.
- Check water tank and filter: Ensure the tank is full and correctly seated. Remove any in-tank water filter cartridge and try a brew cycle to rule out a blocked filter.
- Bleed air from system: Fill the tank, then start a hot water or rinse cycle (if available). On some Morphy Richards pump espresso/bean-to-cup models, running several cycles can clear an airlock.
- Descale thoroughly: Run a full descaling program using the recommended descaler. A scaled flow meter or pump can trigger E4.
- Inspect flow meter (advanced): With the unit unplugged and covers removed, locate the plastic flow meter in the water line from the tank. Check for kinks in silicone hoses and visible debris in the flow meter. Clean or replace if blocked.
If E4 persists after descaling and clearing air, the flow meter or pump assembly may need replacement. This is best handled by a service technician.
