Possible Causes
Blocked portafilter basket, Blocked group head, Scale in thermoblock or boiler, Overly fine grind causing puck blockage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the machine. Allow pressure to dissipate before removing the portafilter.
- Release pressure: Wait a few minutes after brewing, then slowly remove the portafilter to avoid splashing.
- Clean portafilter: Remove the filter basket and clean all holes thoroughly with a brush or pin.
- Backflush group head (if applicable): Use a blind filter and espresso machine cleaner to backflush the group head on compatible Morphy Richards espresso models.
- Adjust grind: Use a slightly coarser grind and avoid over-tamping, which can block flow.
- Descale: Run a descaling cycle through the espresso circuit to clear internal scale.
If no flow returns after cleaning and descaling, the pump or internal valves may be blocked or faulty and require replacement.
