• Initial break-in: For new Morphy Richards coffee makers, run 2–3 full tanks of water (without coffee) to flush and heat-cycle the internal parts. Mild plastic smell often dissipates.
• Clean spills: Wipe away any coffee spills on the hot plate, around the filter basket, and under the machine that may be burning.
• Inspect for melting (advanced): Remove the base and check for any discoloured or deformed plastic near the heater or wiring.
• Stop use if damage found: If any parts show signs of melting or charring, discontinue use and have the unit serviced.

Persistent strong chemical smell after break-in may indicate overheating or unsuitable materials and should be checked by a technician.
