Drip Tray / Container Presence Sensor Fault
Cup tray or drip tray sensor error; machine refuses to brew and indicates tray issue
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Stuck drip tray float, Faulty optical level sensor, Broken or misaligned tray magnet, Failed reed switch or Hall sensor on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before removing trays or opening covers.
Tray and sensor cleaning:
- Remove the drip tray and used capsule container; wash and dry thoroughly.
- Inspect the tray for a small float or magnet; ensure it moves freely and is not stuck with coffee residue.
- Clean the sensor window or area on the machine where the tray is detected.
Sensor checks:
- Reinsert the tray firmly and listen for any click from a reed switch (if audible).
- If the error persists, open the housing and locate the reed switch, Hall sensor, or optical sensor associated with the tray.
- Check for broken wires or loose connectors; reseat as needed.
- Test the reed switch with a magnet and multimeter; replace if it does not change state.
In many cases, replacing the tray (with new float/magnet) or the small sensor board resolves the issue. Avoid bypassing safety sensors permanently.
