Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely. Do not bypass safety devices such as thermal fuses or thermostats.
Basic reset:
- Unplug the unit for 15 minutes and plug it back in. Try a brew cycle with just water. If E2 returns immediately, proceed to inspection.
Internal inspection (advanced users):
- Remove the bottom cover to access the aluminum heating tube and attached components.
- Locate the thermal fuse (small cylindrical component wrapped in heat-resistant sleeve) and any high-limit thermostat clipped to the heater.
- Check for signs of overheating: discoloration, melted insulation, or burnt smell.
- Use a multimeter (continuity mode) to test the thermal fuse and thermostat. If either reads open (no continuity), it has tripped or failed and must be replaced with the same rating.
Descale to prevent recurrence:
- Once repaired, run a full descaling cycle using a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water through the machine to remove limescale that can cause hot spots and overheat conditions.
Do not: Never bypass or short a thermal fuse or thermostat; this is a fire hazard. If you are not comfortable replacing these parts, contact a qualified appliance technician.
