Possible Causes
Residue from manufacturing oils in water path, Low‑quality or degraded plastic parts in reservoir or tubing, Use of harsh cleaners or scented detergents, Rubber gasket leaching flavors
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not ingest coffee that smells strongly of chemicals or plastic; discard and flush the system.
- Initial cleaning: Run 3–4 full tanks of plain water through the machine before first use or after long storage.
- Baking soda rinse: Mix 1–2 tablespoons of baking soda in a full reservoir of warm water and run a brew cycle, then flush with 2–3 tanks of fresh water.
- Avoid scented soaps: Wash the carafe, reservoir, and removable parts with unscented dish soap and rinse thoroughly.
- Check gaskets: Inspect rubber or silicone gaskets in the carafe lid and reservoir. If they appear degraded, sticky, or cracked, they may need replacement.
- Contact manufacturer: If the taste persists after thorough cleaning, contact OXO support; certain parts in the water path may need replacement.
