OXO Restricted Water Flow / Scale Blockage

Coffee maker is extremely slow to brew; a full pot takes much longer than normal.

Possible Causes

Heavy scale in boiler and tubing, Partially clogged inlet screen at reservoir base, Blocked spray head (Rainmaker) holes, Weak or failing pump

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Allow the unit to cool before removing the brew basket or spray head.

  • Clean reservoir and inlet: Remove the reservoir and rinse it. Inspect and clean any mesh screen at the outlet with a soft brush.
  • Clean spray head: Remove the OXO Rainmaker or spray head and soak it in warm water with a bit of descaling solution. Use a toothpick to clear each hole, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Descale system: Run a full descale cycle according to OXO’s instructions, followed by 2–3 rinse cycles with fresh water.
  • Test flow: After cleaning, run a water‑only brew and time it. If it is still significantly slower than the manual’s specification, the pump may be weakening.
  • Service if unresolved: A persistently slow brew after thorough descaling suggests internal blockage or pump failure that requires professional service.
