Possible Causes
Heavy mineral scale in boiler and tubing, Flow sensor detecting restricted flow, Temperature sensor detecting abnormal heating profile, Clean cycle not completed properly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the unit is on a stable surface. Hot water and steam can cause burns; do not open or disassemble while hot.
- Run a full descale cycle: Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of descaling solution and water per OXO’s instructions (often 1:1 with a commercial descaler or as directed). Start the cleaning/descale program from the control panel and allow it to run to completion.
- Rinse thoroughly: After the descale cycle, empty the carafe and reservoir. Refill the reservoir with fresh water only and run at least 2–3 full brew cycles to flush out any remaining descaler.
- Confirm cycle completion: Some OXO models require you to press and hold a specific button (e.g., the brew or clean button) at the end of the cycle to acknowledge completion. Check the user manual and perform the required button press to clear the indicator.
- Power reset: If the CLEAN message remains, unplug the machine for 5 minutes, then plug it back in and check again.
- Persistent CLEAN indicator: If the indicator will not clear even after proper descaling and reset, the flow sensor or internal scale timer circuit may be malfunctioning. At this point, internal access is required and should be done only by a qualified technician.
