Possible Causes
Hard water usage without regular descaling, Scale buildup in stainless steel boiler, Scale restricting silicone water lines, Partially blocked spray head due to mineral deposits
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the coffee maker to cool completely before starting a descale. Wear gloves if using acidic descaling solutions.
- Prepare descaling solution: Remove any coffee grounds and the filter. Fill the reservoir with a descaling solution mixed according to the product instructions. Do not use straight vinegar unless OXO explicitly allows it, as it can damage seals over time.
- Run descale program: Start the dedicated descaling mode if your OXO model has one. If not, run repeated brew cycles without coffee, allowing the solution to pass through the system. Pause halfway through to let the solution sit in the boiler for 15–20 minutes.
- Clean the rainmaker/spray head: Remove the OXO “Rainmaker” shower head or spray head (if removable) and soak it in warm descaling solution. Use a soft brush or toothpick to clear any blocked holes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Flush with fresh water: After descaling, rinse the reservoir and carafe. Run at least 2–3 full tanks of fresh water through the machine to remove any residual solution.
- Check for leaks or odors: During the first brew after descaling, monitor for leaks around the base and unusual smells. If present, stop use and have the unit inspected.
