Possible Causes
Carafe not fully seated on warming plate, Carafe lid not in correct position to open drip valve, Faulty carafe presence microswitch, Misaligned drip‑stop mechanism in brew basket
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the unit is cool before adjusting the carafe or brew basket to avoid burns from hot coffee or steam.
- Reseat the carafe: Remove the carafe and place it back firmly in the center of the base or warming plate. Some OXO models require the carafe to be pushed fully back to engage a switch.
- Check carafe lid orientation: Make sure the lid is installed and rotated to the “brew” position so that the drip‑stop valve in the brew basket can open.
- Inspect brew basket: Remove the brew basket and check the drip‑stop lever or plunger. Ensure it moves freely and is not jammed by coffee grounds or a mis‑seated paper filter. Clean and reinstall.
- Test without coffee: Run a water‑only brew cycle with the carafe correctly seated to see if the error clears.
- Switch failure: If ERR4 persists, the internal carafe presence switch or its wiring may be faulty. This requires disassembly of the base and should be handled by a technician.
